welcome to my chemistry blog.
bio:
i'm in my 2nd trimester here at acchs and loving it! coming to tcm as a second career choice. happy to have found a home for my searching spirit. what else? i love reading biographical books, practicing yoga and sitting in green. being of service to my fellows, fostering loving relationships and practicing self-care are essentials in my life.
my thoughts on the material covered in last night's class:
i loved reading about the scotland town that's aiming to be carbon-neutral. that's wonderfully inspiring news. after our class decussion on leaving a carbon footprint, i've found another way to be more energy efficient in my daily life. i'll be taking the bus once a week to a regular appointment rather than using my car. it's not the most perfect of solutions but it's a step in the right direction. i also feel more assured of my walking to the library, errands and meetings. i used to just consider it great exercise but i'm realizing it's more than that.
online quiz:
1. burning wood - chemical, crushing a rock - physical, dissolving sugar in water - physical, rusting of iron - chemical
2. milk - mixture, table salt - mixture, sugar - mixture, steel - pure
wow! refined sugar is a pure substance? i guess it's been stripped to its purest (and most lethal) form. my steel answer was a guess.
3. hmmm. i guessed homogeneous/pure. i figured coffee didn't have any additional stuff in it. not a coffee drinker. gotta start paying attention to the questions. this is embarrassing to blog.
4. whew! got this one correct.
extra credit:
gravitated to the word game from our choices. did it twice on the easy game and twice on slightly hard level. remembered a few things i didn't think were still in my brain and learned a bit when i played it a few times. great tool for learning the periodic table.
reviewed the john pratt memory table. another useful tool. the drawings have short sentences to remember for each element. easy to understand and retain.

i agree with your breezy blue observation that it's nice to know that at least one country is attempting to become carbon neutral. if one could only rely on their word.
yea good to see that you're taking the bus more and such - yea i'm riding the bike and taking bart and the bus. basically my only means of transp too, but let me tell you: if i can figure out how to teleport i may have to impliment that because these hills ya'll have here in Cali are killers *lol*
It is always heartening to me to hear of someone using a car less frequently. Who really needs 2000 pounds of ugly plastic and metals with them everywhere they go? Congratulations!
i enjoyed your reviews and i'm always encouraged when i see that my classmates think critically, critical thinking is what will save society-in my opinion.
